Rock Climbing in the Peaks

Including complete newcomers will rapidly be scaling sheltered Peak District crags on this weekend session. This historic hillside village, a ancient white village in Andalucía, approximately 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the stimulating setting for this creative getaway. Participants of every skill level – even beginners – will learn how to conceive and execute non-representational pieces. Some time will be spent in the open air, working on tutorials in the open. These sketches and watercolour studies will then be developed in the studio, with attendees creating multiple interpretive scenes in acrylic paint to be shown in the village. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a rooftop with views over the hills. The cost covers five days of painting tuition; all meals; and an trip to the local castle and other points of interest.

Vegetarian Culinary in Portugal

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, set on a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Participants will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a falafel-making workshop, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses including spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, combined with free time for walks by the nearby river, to relax on the terrace or take a dip in the infinity pool. The villa, a renovated rural property, has five bedrooms, as well as safari tents in the grounds.

Hip Hop in Buckinghamshire

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an energizing, inclusive three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a party-style group warmup, followed by several 90-minute workshops covering various street dance styles, then an hour-long freestyle session to show off new moves. Participants are divided into groups according to ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to popping and locking, all the way to advanced dancers or instructors. The camp does not provide accommodation but there are several hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in St Ives

St Ives is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Participants will learn traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at composing original ones. The schedule includes voice exercises, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of the bay. All meals are included, such as a Cornish cream tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, alas, is not included. Everyone join in: “What will we do with the tipsy mariner …?”

Creative Writing in Greece

Author and lecturer an experienced instructor runs the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He covers topics including story structure, character development, setting and suspense, to submitting work to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the retreat. The holiday is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – 10 one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a garden and pool (companions are welcome to come along). On the last night, aspiring writers mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a farewell dinner.

Beginners' Beekeeping in Wales

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs on sustainability: from creating habitats to upcycling. This two-day introduction will help participants learn the fundamentals of beekeeping, study the biology of honeybees and learn about their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's sustainably managed forests, which are home to wildlife, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. Accommodation the evening prior is 80 pounds, and full-board accommodation for the weekend is 97 pounds.

These new summer sailing weekends are spent on dinghies and Dufours on the estuary in Essex. They are aimed at novice sailors learning the ropes or more experienced mariners who want a refresher. There are day-only and overnight packages, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterside sailing school.
