Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Reaction

Slot highlighted known failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
