The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
