Two men have been charged following a luggage theft where a suspected irritant spray led to people being hurt at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, now face two counts of robbery and charges for using a harmful chemical, as confirmed by court officials.

This legal action stems from an probe of an assault at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Earlier that day, two women were robbed of their suitcases taken after getting out of a car park lift, police said.

A three-year-old girl was caught up in the incident in the event. Five people were taken to a medical facility and were later discharged.

The incident – which authorities stated was not part of a series and not being treated as terrorism – caused disruptions to rail services and the temporary blocking of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a brief period.
